Commissioned after the 1745 Jacobite Rising, Major-General William Roy's survey (1747–52) was the first systematic mapping of the Scottish Highlands.
Known as the "Great Map," it captured the landscape in incredible hand-drawn detail just before the Industrial Revolution and the Highland Clearances.
